“I think poetry is still possible…This kind of fiction is a way of teasing out certain tendencies in the present in order to function perhaps as a tiny little alarm clock that might wake people up.” Simon Critchley.
The second contribution to our reflections series is provided by the renowned philosopher and writer Simon Critchley. Presenting to us a vision of a tragic world that is already in the making, Simon’s use of speculative fiction here allows us to understand the dystopian realism of our present, and the devastating human and political consequences this might have for those living in liberal societies. This is a tale of disposability that may already be engulfing us all, from an evening, “sometime in the future”.
